Pipe vs tube — what’s the difference?
Pipes are specified by nominal bore (NB) size and schedule, primarily designed to carry fluids or gases under pressure. Tubes are specified by actual outer diameter and wall thickness, held to tighter dimensional tolerance, and are more commonly used in structural, mechanical and heat exchanger applications where precise fit matters more than pressure rating. This distinction affects how you should specify your order — always confirm whether your application calls for pipe (NB-based) or tube (OD-based) sizing.
